About Us

The IIT Bombay Heritage Foundation (“Foundation“) was established as a non-profit organization to assist the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay … the students, faculty, employees and alumni. The Foundation received its status as a tax-exempt organization from the IRS on July 5, 1996. The Foundation together with the IIT Bombay Alumni Association are dedicated toward strengthening the links between IIT Bombay and its alumni all across the world.

 Our Mission

The mission of the IIT Bombay Heritage Foundation is to fund and promote education and research among students of the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. The organization will achieve its goals by providing financial and other resources towards the Indian Institute of Technology.

Aims and Objectives of IITBHF

The IIT Bombay Heritage Foundation was established as a non-profit public benefit corporation and received its status as a tax-exempt organization from the IRS on July 5, 1996. The Foundation has authorization under the Federal Classification level of 170(b)(1)(A)(vi). The Foundation is not organized for the private gain of any person. It is organized under the Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation Law for charitable purposes. The specific purposes for which the Foundation is organized are to fund and promote education and research among students of the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. The organization will achieve its goals by providing financial and other resources towards the Indian Institute of Technology.

 We share the vision of Dr. Sukhatme, Director of IIT Bombay, as expressed at the Chicago summit meeting in September 1999 – “I dream of an IIT which never forgets that it has a tryst with excellence”.
IIT Bombay Heritage Foundation (IITBHF) and IIT Bombay Alumni Association (IITBAA) through various initiatives are continuing to work closely together to strengthen and grow the global network of IIT Bombay alumni. The objective of these initiatives is to bring IIT Bombay faculty members, alumni, and industry leaders together in assisting IIT Bombay realize its vision of becoming one of the world’s leading research and teaching universities. Generous donations, bequests, gifts, and grants received from the alumni, chapters, benefactors, corporations, or trusts are used in education and research at IIT Bombay in the fields.

Charitable Purpose
To channel donations, bequests, gifts and grants from the alumni, chapters, associates, benefactors corporations, or trusts for use in education and research at IIT Bombay in the fields of technology, science, social science and humanities.
Donations are used for:
•    Purchase of equipment research and education
•    Establishment of reference and research facilities
•    Construction and renovation of research and education facilities
•    Acquisition of real estate
•    Establishment of endowments that IIT Bombay may use for its future growth and maintenance
•  Scholarships and fellowships for students attending IIT Bombay, and for any other purposes specifically designated by donors, provided the donation furthers the education and research missions of IIT Bombay.

Alumni Service Purpose
To foster fellowship among alumni through local chapters, provide a forum for communication among alumni, disseminate continuing education about IIT Bombay, and, provide the means for involving alumni in support of IIT Bombay and the mission of the Heritage Foundation
