Expense Paid Interviews in SF Bay Area: July 8 and 9, 2007

The Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay invites nominations and applications for faculty positions at the Assistant Professor level in all 16 Departments, Centers and Schools:

The Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay founded in 1958 is recognized as one of the centers of academic excellence in India. Over the years, there has been dynamic progress at IIT Bombay in all academic and research activities, and a parallel improvement in facilities and infrastructure. The Institute on an average admits 500 candidates for the undergraduate program through a competitive Joint Entrance Exam (JEE), 100 candidates for M.Sc. programs, 550 candidates for different postgraduate programs and 110 for Ph.D programs. The Institute Alumni have excelled in a number of different fields, and are in leadership positions worldwide. The IIT Bombay Heritage Fund and IIT Bombay Alumni Association website at (http://www.iitbombay.org) ensures that alumni are well connected to their alma mater and support it in various activities.

  • Salaries are competitive with those of other institutes of higher education in India. In addition to the base salary, faculty receive dearness and housing allowances.
  • IIT Bombay’s proximity to India’s financial and industrial nerve center affords lucrative consulting opportunities to further supplement income via consultancy projects.
  • Attractive start up packages will be provided to faculty to initiate their research programs.
  • Travel grants to promote collaborative research with counterparts in US Universities are also provided for the first two years to qualified candidates.
  • Additional funding from Government Agencies such as DST and other sources are available to sustain research programs.

Bombay is a bustling metropolis and a business hub with several large industries. The IIT Bombay Alumni Network, and specifically FAN (http://www.iitbombay.org/fan) is committed to helping IITB faculty succeed in becoming leading researchers in their discipline.

The IIT Bombay campus is over 200 acres and located around two large lakes – Powai and Vihar. The campus is set in a scenic wooded environment, and is an ideal location for highly qualified and committed professionals to pursue their academic careers. The campus has high quality schools available for children of faculty. There is a full service hospital on campus. There are excellent sports facilities with a state of the art gymnasium and Olympic sized swimming pool. High caliber cultural programs are often held on the campus.

The successful candidates should have an earned Ph.D. in relevant Engineering, Science or Humanities and Social Science disciplines. The selected candidates are expected to teach classes at the undergraduate and graduate level. Candidates should have an established record of independent, high quality research and commitment to excel in teaching and research.

Interested applicants should provide a detailed curriculum vitae, statements of research and teaching interests, transcripts (for candidates who are currently or have recently earned a PhD), and a list of three references (with telephone numbers and email addresses).

Application materials must be submitted electronically by email as a single file in editable (i.e. not password protected) PDF format to the Dean of Faculty, IIT Bombay (dean.fa [at] iitb.ac.in) and the FAN Team at fr2007 [at] iitbombay.org.

Qualified candidates will be invited to an Interview in the San Francisco Bay Area after the PANIIT 2007 Event, on July 8 and 9, 2007. Several Faculty and Deans from IIT Bombay will be present to interview and make offers to qualified candidates. Travel expenses will be provided to qualified candidates to fly to San Jose.
