February 12, 2005 Ski Trip Report

The ski outing was truly a fun day, thanks largely to the hard work and many selfless hours put in by Karan, and Raj, with ample help  from Karan's wife, Geetika.
These troopers endured several late arrivals (last arrival: 12:00 noon!!), group rental formalities, and crowds at the rentals the later in the  morning it got...

The hill was unsurprisingly crowded, but I am happy to report 5 years after my last visit there, that Mountain Creek is doing a good job  of updating the resort with appropriate volume handling systems (high-speed gondola, new lodges under construction, etc.). At our  location (Northern-most of three bases) there were plenty of not-too-intimidating novice slopes. Further up on the slopes there was  barely any ice either considering the warm days prior ... and the 35 - 39 degree temperatures made for a very comfortable day's skiing  without biting winds or need for heavy layers of clothing. I was personally heartened to see so many of our brethren (and spouses) give  skiing their first ever try. Kudos! And judging from the follow-up questions (how to master turns; how long before one should attempt one  of the higher slopes), a good time was had by one and all.
