IIT Panel suggests major changes in admission process to MHRD
A panel of the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry has recommended that 70 percent weightage be given to Class 12 marks and 30 percent to marks obtained in an aptitude test conducted more than once a year for the Indian Institute of Technology - Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE).

New symbol for Indian Rupee designed by IIT Bombay alum
The Indian rupee will soon have a unique symbol - a blend of the Devanagri 'Ra' and Roman 'R' — joining elite currencies like the US dollar, euro, British pound and Japanese yen in having a distinct identity. The new symbol, designed by Bombay IIT post-graduate D Udaya Kumar, was approved by the cabinet reflecting the fact that the Indian currency, backed by an over-trillion dollar economy, was finally making its presence felt on the international scene.

After decades of leniency, IIT-B gets tough about attendance
The Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay (IIT-B) has got serious about attendance. Its classrooms will soon be fitted with biometric systems, which will take thumbprint records to mark students' attendance. This will be a shift in culture for the Powai institute, which two decades ago did not even have compulsory attendance.

For a boy who finished high school (Class X) at the age of 9, this is just another feather on his cap. "I will join IIT Bombay on 19 July. Besides that, I have offers from Waterloo University, Canada, and IISER, Bhopal," he said. "But I chose IITBombay because of my desire to work at a wellestablished institute in India."Tulsi will teach students of his age or elder than him at the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay.
