IIT Panel suggests major changes in admission process to MHRD
A panel of the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry has recommended that 70 percent weightage be given to Class 12 marks and 30 percent to marks obtained in an aptitude test conducted more than once a year for the Indian Institute of Technology - Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE).

IITB students lap up jobs in finance sector

As the economy gathers steam, the domestic financial services sector is on a hiring spree and IIT Bombay has seen 40 per cent jump in campus placements, a senior university official said today.
Software tool by IITians-run firms to aid supersonic aircraft research
Research on supersonic aircraft may soon get a fillip as a group of pune-based IITian startups have developed tools to enhance the designing process and make it faster and cheaper. The software tool is called Integrated Design Using Inline Optimisation Technology, (IDIOT).
1st year students in IIT-B will undergo pre-internship
To get students excited about research, IIT Bombay, for the first time, plans to introduce “pre-internship” opportunities for first year students this year.

New symbol for Indian Rupee designed by IIT Bombay alum
The Indian rupee will soon have a unique symbol - a blend of the Devanagri 'Ra' and Roman 'R' — joining elite currencies like the US dollar, euro, British pound and Japanese yen in having a distinct identity. The new symbol, designed by Bombay IIT post-graduate D Udaya Kumar, was approved by the cabinet reflecting the fact that the Indian currency, backed by an over-trillion dollar economy, was finally making its presence felt on the international scene.

After decades of leniency, IIT-B gets tough about attendance
The Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay (IIT-B) has got serious about attendance. Its classrooms will soon be fitted with biometric systems, which will take thumbprint records to mark students' attendance. This will be a shift in culture for the Powai institute, which two decades ago did not even have compulsory attendance.
At 22, wonder boy joins IIT faculty 
BANGALORE: Tathagat Tulsi, 22 years, Assistant Professor, IIT Bombay.Find it unbelievable? It would have been if it was not Tulsi. For a boy who finished high school (Class X) at the age of 9, this is just another feather on his cap. "I will join IIT Bombay on 19 July. Besides that, I have offers from Waterloo University, Canada, and IISER, Bhopal," he said. "But I chose IITBombay because of my desire to work at a wellestablished institute in India."Tulsi will teach students of his age or elder than him at the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay.
Artisans get sales tips from IIT-B
Mumbai: Technology is not just about developing humanoids and sending rockets into space. At a recent workshop conducted by IIT Bombay's Industrial Design Centre (IDC), a motley bunch of 24 artisans from Assam learnt how to weave innovative ideas into their craft.
Innovations 2011 - Pune
Innovations is an event organized by IITBAA - Pune Chapter every year to foster innovation in society - the last date for entries is Oct 6. The event showcases selected novel ideas in practice, and provides a platform for the innovators to disseminate their ideas to a wider and well-connected audience.
