Applied Materials and IIT Bombay have announced a partnership for energy-related initiatives, as a part of which AMAT will donate three process chambers and a solar panel system to IIT Bombay. The panels will be connected to energy efficient LEDs that will light the main avenue on campus ... more.
 
A number of events are coming up of interest to alumni ... registrations are going strong for PanIIT 2010 to be held in New Delhi from Oct 29-31, 2010. The theme of the conference is "Sustainable Transformation: Our new India". Tom Friedman, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Gurcharan Das, and Nandan Nilelkani are amongst the many eminent speakers ... register now.
 
Pune-area alumni are urged to send in nominations for three positions on the Executive Committee of the Pune Chapter of IITBAA. Nominations close on April 30th and online elections will be held if necessary from May 7-14 ... more.
 
Register now for the inaugural PanIIT Research Summit which is to be held in Silicon Valley on May 16th and will feature IITB alum and DARP-E head Dr. Arun Majumdar and Padma Shri Dr. Ashok Jhunjhunwala and others ... more.
 
Alumni of Hostel 4 have come together to write a book about their times in H4. The book is being edited by acclaimed author Urmila Deshpande, granddaughter of Sahitya Academy Award winner Iravati Karve, and is slated for release on Alumni Day on Dec 26. Royalty earnings will be utilized for funding H4 HATS ... calling on H4-ites to contribute their anecdotes, memories, pictures etc. --- visit the H4 HATS site for information ... more.

US mentors for Indian faculty - an initiative by the Pan IIT Alumni Association
Engineering PhD candidates can now look forward to mentoring from faculty members of some top US engineering institutions. Indo-US Collaboration for Engineering Education (IUCEE) — an initiative by the Pan IIT Alumni Association — has taken up a US co-guide PhD initiative wherein faculty members of Indian engineering institutes would be able to obtain PhDs in a four-year period, with the mentoring of distinguished US faculty.

Indian Scientist Bags NSF Award
The National Science Foundation (NSF) is pleased to announce the selection of New York University's Subhash Khot, an associate professor at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, to receive its 2010 Alan T. Waterman Award. Khot earned a bachelor's degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay in 1999, and a doctorate in computer science from Princeton University in 2003.

Kakodkar panel on IITs looking at fee hike
