IIT-Bombay placement a huge hit, 800 students get job offers

The global financial turmoil notwithstanding, 800 offers have been made to the students of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, from December 1 to December 20.

More than 800 students of the approximately 1,400 students that took part in the ongoing placement procedure at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT-B), have been offered jobs.

On Wednesday, the IIT-B issued a fresh report on the ongoing placement procedure at the campus. The report released by the Public Relations Office of the IIT-B states, “Over 60 students have been recruited by multinational companies for their global requirement. The placement office’s Look East Policy saw the creation of several new job opportunities with highly rated organisations.”

The report also mentions the diversity of the recruiters visiting the campus this time. The placement season saw recruiters from different sectors such as management, consulting, engineering, IT, finance and FMCG. However, management consulting and finance beat out the others in terms of offers.

A 78% placement rate gives dual-degree graduates from IITB the highest chance of being recruited. Only eight out of the 57
PhD students have managed to receive job offers, a mere 14%.
Prof Ravi Sinha, dean of placements, said: “IIT-B seems to be earning a brand name of its own. The present prevailing global economic conditions have not deterred the IIT-B placement procedure at all.”

In addition to the 200 companies, around 150 more companies are likely to participate in campus placement in the following months.
