IIT Bombay Distinguished Service Awards - 2009

On Alumni Day 2009, Distinguished Service Awards were presented to Bakul Desai (82), Praween Napate (81), Ajay Phatak (84), Dipak Sheth (75), Sanjay Jain ('87) and Sreedhar Kona (97).

Distinguished Service Awards have been instituted at IIT Bombay from 1999, to be given to IIT Bombay Alumni who have contributed in a very notable and sustained manner to the progress of the Institute. The award consisting of a certificate memento and an uttaria, and is presented on Alumni Day. The Distinguished Service Awardees chosen from among the nominations received from various stakeholders such as alumni and faculty of IIT Bombay.


Distinguished Service Awardees 2009

Bakul Desai - B.Tech., ChE, 1982

He was one of the key players in putting together the Young Faculty Joining Bonus scheme of the Class of '82. He is currently spearheading the HATS initiative for Hostel 4.

Praween Napate - B.Tech. ME 1981

Key role in visualising and executing the Financial Aid Programme, the legacy project of the Class of 1981. In the nearly 3 years of its existence, FAP has advanced loan scholarships to about 300 IIT Bombay students amounting to nearly Rs.80 lakhs. 

Ajay Phatak - B.Tech ChE 1984

In 2007-08 and 2008-09, he was the chapter president for Pune. During these years, a mjaor part of the chapter energy was devoted to developing and executing the Innovation Event. IIT Bombay-Industry interaction.E.g.currently his company is working with Prof Pande of EE on data driven modelling. 

Dipak Sheth - B.Tech. ChE 76

Key member of the organizing committee of silver jubilee reunion of the 1976 batch in Dec 2001. Elected to IITBAA BOD in 2005. Took up the position of Treasurer and carried out proactive management of funds at IITBAA. Consolidated finances to bring the organization on healthy foundation.

Sanjay Jain - B.Tech. CSE 87

Served the IIT-Bombay Alumni community in Bangalore as a member of the executive committee since 2004, and is currently the President of the Bangalore chapter. He is also currently on the board of directors of the IIT Bombay Alumni Association. He was the primary organizer for Kal Aaj Aur Kal, the closing ceremony of the Golden Jubilee celebration in Bangalore.

Sreedhar Kona - B. Tech. Civil 97

Sreedhar is currently the President of New York Chapter. Earlier he was the Treasurer of New York Chapter. Member of organizing team, Golden Jubilee 2008 Conference in New York. He is actively involved in organizing various New York chapter local events & was also actively involved in PANIIT 09.
