Artisans get sales tips from IIT-B

Mumbai: Technology is not just about developing humanoids and sending rockets into space. At a recent workshop conducted by IIT Bombay's Industrial Design Centre (IDC), a motley bunch of 24 artisans from Assam learnt how to weave innovative ideas into their craft.

The 7-day workshop that got underway on July 30 was conducted by professor R Sandesh and his team at Bambu Studio, IDC. Organised in collaboration with the State Institute for Rural Development (SIRD), Assam, the workshop was aimed at helping the artisans hone their skills and package their products in an attractive way.

"We came up with innovative designs for mundane products like tea coasters, trays and mats," said Sandesh. "The artisans used our designs to create some really cool products," he said. "Packaging and presentation are key to a product's sale and market value," he said, adding, "We helped these artisans understand their target consumer better and make their products more saleable."
