Ganesh Natarajan is an alumnus of Indian Institute of Technology Bombay and the Harvard Business School. He is a former chairman of NASSCOM and currently CEO of Zensar Technologies. He also chairs the Task Force on Higher Education for the Confederation of Indian Industry in western India and is spearheading a skills transformation initiative across Asia through a new entity he co-founded called Global Talent Track.
Q. Last year, there was a major drying up of jobs in the IT sector. What are your expectations of the placement scenario in the coming B-School season for the IT sector?
A. The global slowdown has impacted recruitment for the last 12 months but one can expect robust hiring in 2010-11 -- at least 100,000 new jobs will be created in India.
Q.--What do you perceive as the major challenges before the Indian industry with particular reference to IT & ITES?
A. --As the global environment moves from vanilla services to more consulting-led and deep domain skills-driven solutions, Indian professionals and service providers need to move up the value chain and capture clients much earlier on in the outsourcing cycle. This needs a skills transition that has to be planned and engineered across the industry.
