Hostel 4
Dear H4 Alum, Alumni of Hostel 4 hosted a grand reunion on 26 December 2009 at H4. Click here to see messages, reviews, comments and more. Festivities started at noon by announcing the official launch of H4 HATS (Hostel Alumni Team Stewardship)-an initiative aimed at paying back mess workers and improving infrastructure facilities at H4. Checks woth Rs. 1 lac each were presented to 9 retired mess workers who had served for 25 years or more in H4, Rs. 60,000 to one retired mess worker who served for 20 years in H4 and Rs. 25,000 to 10 currently serving mess workers who have completed 25 years or more of service in H4 and with a promise to pay them Rs. 75,000 each when they retire. The mess workers were also counselled by alumni on investing their money wisely so as to yield a good, assured dividend for a long time. This was followed by alumni serving lunch to the mess workers of H4 in the mess.(click here to see a list of names) This was an emotional moment which saw many mess workers breaking down and a few alumni were misty eyed too. Alumni were treated by a mess worker with some delicious chat and juices at his son's stall outside H5, after which alumni played an inter wing cricket match and Central Wing was declared the winner. We also had walks to Vihar lake, visits to the room, group photographs, some fun contests about knowledge of IIT lingo, exchange of nostalgic anecdotes and more and the evening finally culminated in live performances by H4 alumni, music, poetry reading, interaction with current inmates and a friday evening style "dry dinner" menu. This is a request to all H4 alumni to send an email to h4madhousecore@iitbombay.org to enlist for future activities and to send your contributions to H4. H4 alumni have also formed a yahoogroup and the membership is growing by the day. Though the group was formed for a particular reason, many members of the group are now discussing animatedly about the need to raise funds for current mess workers from “our time” and they also want to set up a corpus/mechanism that will look after emergency funds for all mess workers and they want to create a permanent structure which will elicit participation from ALL H4 alumni. This group also has several hilarious and nostalgic anecdotes from the past which have been posted by various alumni (click here to view a sample post) and all these will form the subject matter of a book which is being written by Arun Jethmalani (Jetu) from the batch of 1983.
