FAN is a group of IIT Bombay Alumni who are interested in research and education. They consist of several faculty members who are active in Universities across the world.

The Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay invites applications for faculty positions at the Assistant Professor level in all Departments, Centers and Schools (see www.iitb.ac.in for a listing). Successful candidates will have earned a Ph.D. in relevant Engineering, Science, or Humanities and Social Science disciplines, and have an established record of independent, high quality research. A commitment to excellence in teaching and research is essential. The selected candidates are expected to conduct leading-edge research and teach classes at the undergraduate and graduate level.
The Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay was founded in 1958, and is recognized as a leading center of academic excellence in India. IIT Bombay is seeking to build on this record and move aggressively to a position of international recognition and stature. Each year, the Institute admits around 500 candidates into its undergraduate programs through an intensely competitive Joint Entrance Exam (JEE), and over 500 candidates into its post graduate programs. IIT Bombay graduated over 180 Ph.Ds in 2009, and currently has over 1500 Ph. D. candidates. Institute Alumni are widely recognized for having excelled in a number of different fields, and hold leadership positions worldwide. The Institute has maintained a strong level of engagement with these alumni, who have supported it over the years through the IIT Bombay Heritage Fund (www.iitbombay.org). The IITB Alumni Network and the Faculty Alumni Network (www.iitbombay.org/fan/) have provided advice and financial support for various IIT Bombay initiatives.
The Institute has identified the following areas as important in its move to pre-eminence:

- Energy and Environmental Technology
- Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Physics & Molecular Biology
- Instrumentation and Control
- Communications Technology

Salaries are competitive with those of other institutes of higher education in India. Total compensation packages include base salaries as well as dearness and housing allowances. Attractive start up packages will be provided to faculty to initiate their research programs. Travel grants to promote collaborative research with counterparts in US Universities are also provided for the first two years to qualified candidates. Additional funding from Government Agencies such as DST and other sources are available to sustain research programs.
IIT Bombay’s picturesque 500-acre campus is set in a scenic wooded environment between the Powai and Vihar lakes, and is an ideal location for highly qualified and committed professionals to pursue their academic careers. IIT Bombay is conveniently located to be able to supplement incomes via consultancy projects.
Interested applicants should provide a detailed curriculum vitae, statements of research and teaching interests, transcripts (for candidates who are currently or have recently earned a PhD), and a list of three references (with telephone numbers and email addresses). Qualified candidates will be invited to an Interview in Santa Clara on September 26, 2010. Several faculty and Deans from IIT Bombay will be present to interview and make offers to qualified candidates. Subsidies for travel expenses to interviews in Bay Area are available to qualified candidates.
