THE FACULTY ALUMNI NETWORK (FAN)
FAN is a group of IIT Bombay Alumni who are interested in research and education. They consist of several faculty members who are active in Universities across the world.
FAN Objectives
- Assist in making IIT Bombay a world class research and teaching institution
- Raise the visibility of IIT Bombay graduate students, and faculty world wide
- Help to improve teaching programs at both the graduate and undergraduate levels
- Help with faculty recruiting, as IIT Bombay works to grow faculty levels
- Help departments and individuals to develop world class research programs
- Promote networking amongst FAN members

Interviews in Chicago - October 11-12, 2009
The Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay invites nominations and applications for faculty positions at the Assistant Professor level in all Departments, Centers and Schools (see www.iitb.ac.in for listing). The successful candidates will have earned a Ph.D. in the relevant Engineering, Science or Humanities and Social Science disciplines and have an established record of independent, high quality research. A commitment to excel in teaching and research is essential. The selected candidates are expected to teach classes at the undergraduate and graduate level.
The Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay founded in 1958 is recognized as one of the centers of academic excellence in India. Over the years, there has been dynamic progress at IIT Bombay in all academic and research activities, and a parallel improvement in facilities and infrastructure. The Institute on an average admits 500 candidates for the undergraduate program through a competitive Joint Entrance Exam(JEE) and over 500 candidates in the post graduate programs. IIT Bombay currently has over 1200 Ph. D. candidates. We graduated over 200 Ph. D.s in 2008. The Institute Alumni have excelled in a number of different fields, and are in leadership positions worldwide. Through the IIT Bombay Heritage Fund (www.iitbombay.org), the Alumni are well connected to the Institute and support it in various activities.
The Institute has embarked on an ambitious program to enhance its research and educational programs. Some key areas of emphasis are:

- Energy and Environmental Technology
- Biotechnology and biomedical engineering, Chemical Physics & Molecular Biology
- Instrumentation and Control
- Communication Technology

Salaries are competitive with those of other institutes of higher education in India. In addition to the base salary, faculty receive dearness and housing allowances. IIT Bombay’s proximity to India’s financial and industrial nerve center affords lucrative consulting opportunities to further supplement incomes via consultancy projects. Attractive start up packages will be provided to faculty to initiate their research programs. Travel grants to promote collaborative research with counterparts in US Universities are also provided for the first two years to qualified candidates. Additional funding from Government Agencies such as DST and other sources are available to sustain research programs. Bombay is a bustling metropolis and a business hub with several large industries. The IITB Alumni Network, and specifically FAN (Faculty Alumni Network) helps faculty in various ways.
IIT Bombay campus is over 500 acres and located around two large lakes – Powai and Vihar. The campus is set in a scenic wooded environment, and is an ideal location for highly qualified and committed professionals to pursue their academic careers.
Interested applicants should provide a detailed curriculum vitae, statements of research and teaching interests, transcripts (for candidates who are currently or have recently earned a PhD), and a list of three references (with telephone numbers and email addresses). Qualified candidates will be invited to an Interview in Chicago after the PanIIT 2009 Event, on October 11, 2009. Several faculty and Deans from IIT Bombay will be present to interview and make offers to qualified candidates. Qualified candidates will be reimbursed for partial travel expenses.
