What is IIT Bombay Heritage Fund?
 
IIT Bombay Heritage Fund Inc is a non-profit public benefit corporation, which was established to assist IIT Bombay (students, faculty, alumni, employees), to aid and promote education and research among students off IIT, Bombay.

The goal of IIT Bombay Heritage Fund is to provide resources & financial aid to IIT and jointly with IIT Bombay Alumni Association strengthen the bond between IIT Bombay and its alumni all across the world.

It received the status of tax-exempt organization from IRS on 5th July 1996. It is organized under Non Profit Public Benefit Corporation Law for charitable purpose.



How can I contribute to IIT Bombay Heritage Fund ?
 
Making your contribution to IIT Bombay Heritage Fund is easy.

One can contribute in the following ways:

For Indian Residents:
Donation can be made directly to IIT Bombay in the form of cheque made in favor of:

  • A particular department of IIT Bombay.

  • A facility offered by IIT, Bombay to the students and staff.

What sets the Bombay Heritage Fund apart from the rest of the charitable funds?
 
The volunteers of IIT Bombay Heritage Fund have been working for years selflessly devoting themselves towards improving the conditions of IIT.

Since 1996, the office expenses are supported by the contributions of several distinguished alums. Volunteers approaching several alumni have managed to raise these funds for the back office.

The operation costs of Heritage Fund do not have any impact on any donations. The budget for the capital expenditure projects is treated separately from the operating funds. IIT determines where they would like the funds to be spent.

All the expenditures are noted. As an alum you have the right to ask to see the books any time you want.



Are the donations tax exempted?
 
Yes. donations made to IIT Bombay Heritage Fund Inc. are tax exempted.

For USA Residents:
The Fund has authorization under the Federal Classification level of 170 (b)(1)(A)(vi).

US federal Tax I.D # 77 – 0428724
Contributions are eligible as charitable donations under US tax laws on the basis of a ruling from the Internal Revenue Service, which has given a final and permanent 501 (c) (3) certification to IITBHF as a public charitable foundation.

For Indian Residents:
Residents of India may give to IIT Bombay and receive 100% exemption from Income Tax under Sec. 80G (2) (a) (iii f) of the Income Tax Act.
