Well, if you've not registered yet, you're not very early, but still, registering as soon as possible will help the organizers better plan the event from a logistics stand-point.
How much will the registration fee go up after early bird date?
Starting September 16, 2009 the fee goes up to Rs. 4,000 / US$ 200 (single) and Rs. 6,000 / US$ 300 (family). So hurry, Register Now!
Walk-in registration is allowed at the full fee, and again the "Inside India" "Outside India" distinction applies. The amount can be paid in rupees or foreign credit card, or foreign cheque. However, it is our desire to minimize walk-in registrations, to ensure easier logistics. So, do try and register on-line, here.
What does family registration include ?
Family includes spouse (upto one
) and all children. The registration page provides for upto 4 children to be registered. In case you’re getting more than 4 of your kids to the Reunion, please write to us at iitb84.registration.requests@iitbombay.org and we'll assist you to register the additional (5th onward) kids off-line. However, we’ve had an internal bet that none of our batchmates have more than 4 kids – anyone proving us wrong? ![]()
Yes, you can! Anyone who does not fall in the above definition of family is a guest (parents, relatives, friends, etc.). You are allowed to bring upto two additional people as guests. An additional fee of Rs. 2500 or US$ 75 (depending on whether you’re from India / Outside India) per guest will be charged. Please note that you cannot include guests as part of the family during registration.
I am not from the batch of ’84. I would still like to attend. How do I register?
We appreciate your interest. You can participate in the second day festivities (i.e. the Alumni Day) of the event regardless of which batch you are from. Check the agenda for more details. You also have an option of being invited as a guest by a '84 batchmate as a part of the guest option. The ’84 batchmate will need to pay the additional guest fee for you (and can invite a maximum of two such people).
To clarify, if you have a roll number like 790xxx you are definitely eligible, irrespective of when you graduated. If you had a 800xxx roll number and you graduated in '84, you are of course eligible. If you had a roll number like 780xxx and you graduated in 1984, you are eligible. A similar algorithm applies if you are M.Tech or Ph.D -- basically we want to be as inclusive as possible.
What happens if I make a mistake while registering? The registration system does not allow you to register twice. So it helps to be careful (see below for lodging information, for example.) However do not worry! Send an email to iitb84.registration.requests@iitbombay.org for changes or cancellations.
I don’t have a credit card or do not wish to use one. What options do I have?
We recommend the use of a credit card, but you can pay by cheque. You will be given various options during the registration process. Once you’ve registered, you will get a confirmatory mail with details of where to send your cheque. Please do that as soon as possible.
Until Aug 31, 2009, there is no penalty for cancelling. Between Sept 1 and November 30 2009, the cancellation fee is 50% of the registration amount paid. No refund is given for cancellations made on or after December 1st 2009.
You can upgrade from Single to Family registration at any time by paying and additional Rs. 2,000, or US$ 100, as applicable.

You need to request for assistance in reserving your lodging on or near campus by checking "I Need Lodging Reservation" in the registration form. We’ve made arrangements for lodging for alumni at the IIT Guest House and the nearby MTNL Guest House. These rooms will be released on a first-come-first-served basis. Just in case some of us require (regular)Hotel accommodation, we’ve listed a few hotels close to IIT along with their contact details. You will have to make hotel bookings directly with the hotel.
Please refer to Lodging for details of the lodging arrangements. The rates mentioned are representative and subject to changes.
I am coming before Dec 26th. Can I get a reservation for the extra days?
IIT guest house rooms have been booked from Friday morning (Dec. 25), so you can land up that day. Since the Guest House rooms are booked only from Friday, you may have to make your own arrangements for lodging in case you arrive before Friday.
I am traveling with friends, or wish to be in same place as my friends who are also attending. Can you help?
While the organizers will try their best to meet your requirements, it may not be possible to address your co-location needs due to limited space for accommodation.
How do I change my lodging arrangement (from single to family, family to single, or cancellation)? You must send a separate email to iitb84.lodging.requests@iitbombay.org, to make an update request.
There will be no "single" occupancy in the IIT guest house. Single registrants will share rooms.
The collected fees are spent on the event itself including activities, food and logistics. The organizers are your own batch mates from the class of 1984 who are working on a voluntary basis. Entertainment is facilitated by sponsors.
Why is there a difference in registration fee for alumni from India and Outside India?
The volunteers came up with this fee structure after careful consideration (and numerous, IIT style, to and fro, arguments
) to ensure maximum attendance, and as low a fee as possible. The registration fee proceeds are an important source for the Reunion event funds. The fee needs to be large enough to meet the basic expenses of the event, without becoming a deterrent to ANY of our batchmates. This has been the rationale for coming up with this year’s fee structure.
Just for information, we’ve reduced the difference compared to previous years.
Who qualifies for the India rate, and who for the Outside India one?
Alumni who are normally resident in India, qualify for the India rate. All others qualify for the Outside India rate.
I want to attend only a part of the program. Can I register only for parts?
Unfortunately there is no partial registration. We strongly encourage you to make time and participate in the whole event. This is indeed a rare opportunity to get back together and network your batch mates from 25 years ago!
I or members of my registration party have special needs.
Please contact the organizers at iitb84.registration.requests@iitbombay.org providing details of your needs. We will try and address your needs.
I have registration-related questions that are not answered in the FAQ.
