Mood and Melodies
What an evening!! Over 300 people, alumni showing up with family, alumni playing some fantastic music and people enjoying in the audience – and all this for a great cause!
"Moods and Melodies", the Pan-IIT musical program towards raising funds for the Village Knowledge Center initiative of IIT Bombay Alumni Association, Bangalore Chapter was organized on Saturday, Nov 8 at the Royal Orchid Hotel in Bangalore. The event witnessed an attendance of around 300 including alumni from all IITs, their families, and friends. The chief guest for the evening was Prof.Deepak Phatak of IIT Bombay. Also present were Dr.Ashok Misra, ex-director of IIT Bombay and his wife Rashmi Misra.
This was the first time that all the local IIT alumni chapters in Bangalore worked together to support a social cause. There was terrific enthusiasm in the performers and the audience. The organizing team had successfully brought together the musical talent from all the IITs who practiced for a month for this event. The program started with a string of Hindi film songs covering the entire era from 1960s to the latest chart busters. This was followed by an Indian Music Inter-IIT competition where 1 singer from every IIT was chosen to represent their alma mater. How can any IITian forget the inter-IIT rivalry? This was a tribute to that age-old sacred tradition. Punit Mishra (2007) from IIT KGP bagged the first place followed by Puneet Joshi (1994) from IIT Bombay.
Now was the turn of Western Music lovers to let their hair down. The Inter-IIT western music bout was won by Shankar (1999) from IITK. IIT KGP , was declared the unofficial "event winner" because of their great all-round performance. The group went on and on playing the choicest numbers that kept the audience at their feet till everybody was literally asked to leave! (that's Bangalore)
Overall the event was a great success. Many connections were made and renewed. All expectations of the organizers were exceeded in terms of the turn-out and funds raised. A sum of Rs.3.2 Lacs was raised from the event with which we can start a new and exciting chapter in our journey to help bridge the information divide between the urban and rural areas.
The IIT Bombay Alumni Association Bangalore Chapter would like to thank all the sponsors, alumni, performers (from many IITs) for making this a great success!

Freshies Nite
A WARM THANKS!!
Hi Folks,
A warm thanks to all who could show up for the Freshies Nite. To inform the others, approx. 30 ex-IITBians appeared with a good representation from across the batches (1971-2006). ‘Bravo!’ for that!! We are sure you had a gala time – showed on the faces!
Alumni from companies like Google, Yahoo!, Ness, AOL, Citigroup, SAP, P&G, PwC , ON Semi, Proteans, Modelytics, Srishti, Think3, Arcot, Picsquare, Sycon, Kena Design and SportzVillage as well as the Lok Paritran folks (the political party started by IIT alumni) were present at the meeting.
We had some interesting conversations going across the group, some old pals catching up after *ages*, lots of networking and even discussions about how we could work with Lok Paritran.
We thank you again - and hope you had a good time! We enjoyed putting it together and meeting more alumni
Bangalore Chapter Meeting - September 10, 2005
Dear Alumnus,
Over the past two years, the IIT-B Alumni Association in Bangalore has been active, and apart from various fun activities - cricket matches, picnics, treks, etc. We have initiated and set-up a Village Knowledge Centre, a project of social relevance at Ittamadu, a village 40 km from Bangalore. This has been possible with the involvement of quite a few alumni and while there's still a lot to be done, our experience has been very encouraging.
The Bangalore Chapter of IITBAA had been meeting regularly every third Friday at the IAS Officers Association, but for the last couple of months, we've not been able to meet. However, a few of the alumni have been meeting to carry on the planned initiatives of the association, and we've seen fun activities courtesy Saumil and Sanjay Jain, and also made progress at Ittamadu.
We thought it's time to meet again, take stock of what's happening, and plan for future activities. November, the time of our Annual Get-together is also round the corner, and it's a good idea to start planning for that, too. While we realize the demand on your time, do make yourself free on Saturday, September 10th 2005, at 6.30 pm to meet at the IAS Officer's Association, Infantry Road (opposite Hotel Ashraya International).
Apart from planning for various future activities, let's also work towards creating stronger bonds among the alumni in Bangalore!!
We look forward to seeing you Saturday, 10th September 2005. Please confirm by return mail.
With regards
Ananth

Sunday Cricket Match - May 1, 2005
We had a great set of cricket matches yesterday! Here's an update for all those who missed out on the fun! :) Started off with a double-wicket tournament that had some great displays of all-round cricket and lots of minus 5's being scored! Sanjay Jain (H2) and Chaitanya Rajguru (H7) ended up treating all of us to a round of nimbu-pani that gave everyone the energy required to play another match.....H7 v/s rest of the world....and no prizes for guessing who won that one! A few freshies (2002 batch) did come and liven up the show towards the end!
Due to some great bowling and impressive batting, Ashok Raman's son - Akshay - was awarded the man of the match. Attached are pictures of the game, Akshay receiving Man of the match as well as the group of enthu iitians after a great game of cricket and of course, lots and lots of fun and laughter!
IIT BOMBAY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
PROJECT- VILLAGE KNOWLEDGE CENTRE - ITTAMADU
Click here for a Powerpoint presentation on the project ...
IIT Bombay Alumni Association inaugurated its first village knowledge center on 16th April 2005 in a village called ITTAMADU, approx. 45 km. from Bangalore. The enthusiasm in the village was tremendous. The VKC was inaugurated by a school girl with tens of small children, hope in their eyes being present along with the local villagers and Panchayat members.
The center has a library with over 500 books and a reading facility to act as a source of learning and will empower the children and villagers with knowledge awareness. The center has been equipped with books and magazines for all ages and also has 2 computers, a printer, UPS, Web camera, scanner and other support facilities which should enable it to evolve into the nodal center for knowledge for the villagers.
The village Panchayat has provided a building to house the library and computers. Local village talent has been identified by the Panchayat to manage the library and also the village knowledge center while the cost of the infrastructure has been funded from internal resources of IITBAA, Bangalore Chapter.
Ittamadu VKC is the first among the four VKC’s that IITBAA is planning to establish. The architects of this initiative are Mr. PSV Ananthanarayana, Mr. Ashok Kamath, Mr. Samir Kumar, Mr. Srikant Rao, Mr. Paresh Vora, Mr. V.P. Baligar.
15 IITB alumni (including Mr. Sudhir Badami who flew in from Bombay) participated in the inauguration to reinforce their commitment on rural development projects and how such a center can bring about a change in villages.
The activities of these VKCs and their impact are limited only by the time alumni are willing to spend in this activity to bring in a significant difference in many lives.
IITBAA has plans to extend the success of this model to other villages in the state.
