Fundraising Campaign 2000
November 15, 2000 Dear Fellow Alumnus: This has been
a very exciting year indeed. Prof. Ashok Misra (Director), on his
recent visit to the US, informed us that IIT Bombay was recognized as the
best technological Institution in India and the third best in Asia.
The goal now is to be one of the best in the world. To accomplish
this, Prof. Misra and his team have developed (in consultation with the
Heritage Fund), a vision with ambitious goals for the future, which will
require a considerable effort in the area of resource mobilization. All of us recall the enormous benefit derived from our education at Powai (primarily at taxpayer expense). As members of the extended family of IIT Bombay, we can play a pivotal role here. I am therefore inviting all alumni to make an investment in the future of IITB, by sending in a contribution as part of our annual fundraising drive. I have no doubt that this investment will add richness to your life and generate a renewed pride in IITB. You can direct
your donation towards any of six areas shown on the attached pledge form.
One of the greatest challenges facing the Institute is the hiring and
retaining of qualified professors. The Faculty Development Fund along with
the Hostel Maintenance (via the box marked Infrastructure) and Library
Funds are endowments. Contributions to these are matched by our
‘mega donors’ and then matched again by the Central Government.
In this manner, the original amount donated is multiplied by a factor of
four. Let us leverage these available resources. I thank you in advance for your support and request that you send in your contribution - fully tax deductible, see pledge form for details - by December 15 or sooner. Also in this mailing (please look at both sides of each page) are letters from Prof. Misra and Anil Kshirsagar, a report on Chapter activities (thanks to Sumit Roy) and a Heritage Fund flyer listing alumni chapters along with contact information. Kind regards, Jude A. Netto,
